Biography
Mahima’s a self-confessed couch potato but sees herself as either pregnant or surrounded by children in 10 years time.
Mahima took the world by storm opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Subhash Ghai’s blockbuster Pardes and hasn’t looked back since. A former model and VJ, Mahima was born as Rita but changed her name on the say-so and advice of Mr. Ghai.
But Mahima isn’t just a pretty face. As smart as she is talented, she attended a Darjileeng boarding school and graduated with a good economics degree. Her first role in front of the camera was alongside Aamir Khan in a Pepsi commercial, and it wasn’t long before she started picking up awards like Lux Face of the Year in 1997. But, the success of Pardes meant she was able to grab the Lux Zee Cine Best Female Debutante award, and was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Not a bad way to start a film career!
Her hips danced to the beat in Daag-The Fire, and her supporting roles in Dil Kya Kare and Pyar Koi Khel Nahin have made her one of the leading ladies of Bollywood’s new era. She has said she wouldn’t mind being a Bond Girl, but would rather be the next James Bond – so lets see if Pierce Brosnan gets a touch of the shakes and she can take over!
Mahima says her favourite actors are Bollywood icons Rajesh Khanna and Sanjeev Kumar , and she says her ideal man would be someone who can play the piano and who takes regular baths!
