4 day fishing and crabbing report

The past 5 days Ive had a friend from Florida here with his 2 boys. 4 where spent fishing, here is what we caught

Sunday,
Headed out of fresh water city at 530am. The blue water was about 40 miles out, and very calm. The weather man was spot on this weekend. The first 2 stops, was surprisingly slow. We caught a few lane snapper and some small red snapper and blue fish. The bait was easy to catch using again red sabiki rigs. On our third and final stop we found some really nice fish. The key was using cut blue fish, that was the only way to get the big ones to bite. We lost quit a few fish against the rig legs but managed to get a couple off. The best thing I noticed there where zero boats fishing in our area. I can tell you the vermillion blocks between 150 and 200 are holding plenty of big fish. The bait was the key. I also landed the biggest red fish Ive ever gotten, approximately 50 pounds. We only managed to see one Cobia and he
didn't want to take the bait. Total for the day was red snapper, Lane snapper, a couple sharks ( one being a huge spinner , that put a great fight up for a 10 year old) , chicken dolphin and white trout.

Monday,
I decided to take them crabbing over on Marsh Island. We headed out around 9 to the Small dam. Using turkey necks on a string it was non stop action. The crabs are defiantly running. We spent the day in one spot and they landed one after the other. It was a great day, and again no one on the water.

Tuesday,
We decided to go fishing in the bay, considering how calm it has been. We started at the bluffs and didn't get a single bite, not even a hard head. Headed over to weeks bay, the water is way better but very fresh. We fished around mud point and caught croakers, reds, drum, and 2 nice flounder. Bait was shrimp on the bottom, carolina rigged. There were allot of boats around the trash pile, but it looked to me as if they were not catching anything. It was choppy in the morning, due to a hard tide, but after lunch it calmed down.
Today,
I left it up to the boys and they wanted to go back crabbing. We again hit marsh Island, the small dam, using turkey necks and caught all the crabs we could handle. Today they were really nice. The tide was incoming and extremely strong. I tried for some shrimp in the cast net and did not catch any. Again, we were the only boat. It was extremely choppy today. I would use caution, especially in the mornings if your headed out to the bay.

All and all it has been a great past 4 days. I hope this helps anyone headed out this upcoming weekend. Again be safe and have a great week on the water.
