New Orleans by Charles Shea

These are some of the spots I hit while in New Orleans. I have been going to NOLA since I was 18 and have weeded out most of the good and bad spots.

For the ride to NOLA I suggest you take one of two stops, if you’re taking Highway 90.

1. Spahr's Seafood - Get the crab claws and a Bloody Mary

2. Frank's Lounge- Nothing to eat here JUST GET THE
BLOODY MARY!

Good places to stay depending on price and how close to the action you want to be.

1. Royal Sonesta (300 Bourbon Street) Right in the middle of it all. Expensive and sometimes loud but look out your window and there’s Bourbon St!

2. New Orleans Marriott (555 Canal St) Great price, in-between Bourbon St and the Casino. Mostly quiet except during Mardi gras and Saints games.

Where to Dine in Nola Also depends on your pocket book and cuisine.

1. Commander's Palace- Very expensive but a once and a life time meal. DO NOT go there and expect to spend $100 on a meal bring $100 to $150 a head. Also I may be related to one of the cooks Just saying.

2. Casino Buffet- If you gamble at all it’s free if not it’s about 20 a head. The food is very good and there’s lots of it. It’s also very quick if have other plans to get to.

Where to eat Lunch …

1. Port of Call- Best burger in Louisiana! Get there at 11:00 AM or you will wait in line.

2. Drago's – Just get the charbroiled oysters and tell me how good they are. And for those who don’t like oysters get them anyway I SWEAR you will like them!

Where to for Breakfast

1. Brennan’s - And yes Gumbo is fine for breakfast! Just get what looks good because all of it is. Also very expensive.

2. Lucy’s - Their breakfast burrito is GREAT and the Bloody Marys are very spicy.

Things to do..

1. DRINK – Ok I got that out the way but why else would you be there? New Orleans is for Drinking, Eating, Dancing, and if you’re like me gambling!

2. See the ZOO – I know it sounds weird but New Orleans has a great ZOO. It’s a great place to walk off a hangover, its quiet and they have lots of trees to sit under and piece back the night before.

Bars to hit and there’s a few.

1. Pat O'Brien's Bar – Go to the Piano bar. Tip the host 20 Bucks and you will sit right down. Next get a Hurricane ASAP and just enjoy.

2. Lafittes blacksmith shop- The Oldest structure used as a bar in the United States. That should be enough to get you there.

3. Napoleon House Bar – Order the Pimm’s Cup.

Gold Mine Saloon – This should be the last stop on your night of going out. They open the doors at 11:00 PM but wait till 12 or 1 before you go. Have your Dancing shoes on and not much else because it gets HOT in there! O yea there special is the Flaming Dr. pepper just be careful it might creep up later.

Late night food.

1. Déjà vu – At 3 or 4 AM who cares if it’s good you just hope it stays down! And yes it’s not too bad.

2. Casino - open 24/7 and the only time the buffet is closed is when there changing over meals.
